Korg Z1 - Vangelis twist

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Well.. after gotten som inspration on youtube, i wanted to check out how the korg z1 would do the vangelis lead used in chariots of fire and blade runner (you know.. the yummyha cs80 lead :) )..

anyway.. here is what i got after probably a hour work :P

Korg Z1 - Vangelis lead

2 OSC using saw, with a slight detune from each other.
vibrato LFO on the patch to get it swinging. filter envelope and amp. envelope.

using serial filter in the z1. maybe i will try the same on the nova, to se how it does the sound.

Well.. long time no see.. stuff have happend..
one of the thing is that i traded in the MC909 against a korg Z1.. why you might as!

because the sampler part (which was the main reason for getting it) was to simple for me.. i need something in the emu league… Akai mpc whould probably do it.. but the price is out of reach.. PLUSS i wanted a good keyboard to push.

Anyway.. here is a patch i dialed up while playing with the korg z1.. and i must admit that this synth is rather impressive.. you can do so much.. and it has such a big sound range!

Patches made with Softsynths and creamware

Just a pad made with NI pro-53, no effects applied.

Pro-53 PAD 1

A bass line made with the Miniscope on the creamware platform. Sounds good.. i should get the minimax, it would blow my mind! :D
Miniscope on Creamware

A short pad made quickly on the U Know 007 on the creamware platform. Sounds good aswell…
after playing with the creamware.. i realize that the NI plug (pro 53) just sounds lifeless :(.. i will continue using creamware instead. :)
Juno 106 on Creamware

Another pad made with the Orion by Zarg Custom 3.0 on the scope platform. very classic, but i must admit i love the sound.. sooo high quality

E-mu e6400 Ultra

The patch is using a kind of reverbish delay on the rfx32.

To build the patch i created a base on my nova consisting of 3 osc.
osc 1: saw
osc 2: pulse width mod -> lfo1
osc 3: pulse width mod -> lfo1+lfo2

and some tweaking to get the sound to be a bit dynamic.

then i sampled it down, and got it into the emu (one C3 samples, and one C4 samples). using about 8 sec of sampling on each.

I looped them, added some corde settings. and lo pass+peakshelf filter.

Midi A = filter cutoff
Midi B = filter reso.

PS! the patchfile should be renamed to B.000-… its the blog up-loader that destroys the filename
