[EMU e6400 Ultra] Higen Warm Pad 1
The patch is using a kind of reverbish delay on the rfx32.
To build the patch i created a base on my nova consisting of 3 osc.
osc 1: saw
osc 2: pulse width mod -> lfo1
osc 3: pulse width mod -> lfo1+lfo2
and some tweaking to get the sound to be a bit dynamic.
then i sampled it down, and got it into the emu (one C3 samples, and one C4 samples). using about 8 sec of sampling on each.
I looped them, added some corde settings. and lo pass+peakshelf filter.
Midi A = filter cutoff
Midi B = filter reso.

PS! the patchfile should be renamed to B.000-... its the blog up-loader that destroys the filename
Vandetta – Bitter Taste
As a correction.. in stead of calling it higen feat. bla bla.. we named the group Vandetta (dont ask why.. ).
we have made a page at Urørt, which is a norwegian concept for unheard bands
a newer version is up
Vandetta - Bitter Taste <--- download here
Its been some small changes to the drums. minor stuff. I consider the track as done now
Okay.. a new track is up. its called bitter taste, the lyrics are preformed by my wife, Maria.
Bitter Taste Lyrics:
Secret are my tears, I am hiding away from your face.
Why am i crying and feeling ashamed?
Why do sit here and feeling alone?Times in the past, are lost moments.
I cant get it back, what we had before. Its time for me, to move on with my life now
you cant be in my mind anymore.
Techincal:
1. layer Bass track is made by novation nova, sampled down to emu then threated.
2. layer bass track is made with v-station prosessed through a presonus tubepre (tube preamp).
Vocals are maria, with auto-tune turned hard on, to get the characteristically sound.
Pads are absynth4 and the build in es2.
Piano are holy grail emu samples piano converted to esx24.
Drums are all and alone emu, with all the glory.

Finaly some music in progress
Well.. it has been ages.. since last track drop. mostely due the fact that i have been a father, but also because of the total change of music setup.
I have moved from windows XP with sonar to iMac running logic, which means i have also changed out the soundcard from RME Digi96 to a TC Konnekt 24D. And i do NOT regret at all. This rig just works!
Now i am having enough inputs to get all my gear directly into logic, doing the mixing there. Logic does not have any more features then sonar or cubase when i comes to mixing in external gear, but the way its done in logic is more slicker and cleaner then in sonar and cubase in my opinion.
Anyway.. i have been listening a bit to the hybrid album called Wider Angle, and i must say its inspiring.. the kind of breakbeat with a nice pace but still lush feel. The next track i am working on is still sticking to the breakbeat genre, but i am trying to work up a style that goes between the drums and pace from breakbeat, and the melodies and pads from chill. hopefully some good will come out
Since its only been a day since i started with the track. (some few hours late on sunday) i do not have too much to show off. but since its been so long i will still dump out what i will call a conceptual test of the track, and not a preview. The track is subject to biiiiiig changes over time anyway

Imac in the house
Well.. there hasnt been much music lately.. obviously because Mathias takes a lot of time. Anyway, i have aquired an Imac. The Imac has taken the space of my old winXP music pc. BUT i cant start before i have bought a new soundcard. i am looking at the TC Konnekt 24D http://www.procom.no/infoShop/isProductDisplayer.php/details/23696 but its a bit expencive
. Logic 8 (probably express) will be my sequencer of choice. looking forward to the future.. hopefully i will manage to pull out some music from my brain

Build in Vocoder on the Emu sampler (RFX-32)
Yepp.. yesterday i tested out the vocoder, after reading about it in the rfx-32 manual. I am not in desperat need of robotic voices, but its nice to have the function. But the real fun started when i used (break beat) Drumloop as carrier, then a rez bass as modulator.. i also tested with AHH sound as modulator. Where i made the drumloop as a non-transpose.It worked almost like a gate on the modulator, blending in sound from both parts. Sounds sweet. I will without doubt add that in my next track to spice up the beat
.
There might be a sound example later

Well.. the new beat break bass and drum track i done
enjoy.. and please comment
My wife is responsible for the Ahhing in the background. Beats and stuff are made, sampled and messed up on the emu. bass is from a nova which is sampled down to the emu for special threate. Voice sample are taken from the beach. pads are from creamware lightwave and zarge orion custom 3 synth.
[214] – Time trouble
Well.. last night (04. july 2007) i manage to get a good workflow.. but it all ended to early.. not because my head was empty.. but because i had to go to bed...
Anyway.. i finaly manage to find a theme in my track.. The last few tracks have been a bit empty.. Because I havent managed to sort out any image for the soundscape.. its ended up been just music.. with no big feelings..
finaly feel that i have some expression again. But it dosn't mean that its mellow chillout.. because its not.. its rather angry break music.
.
Anyway.. i havent found the excact title yet.. but the title will contain "shark".. and this is the reason why:
I extracted this nice sample from the movie "The Beach" with leonardo di caprio where he talks about a shark attack. I also sampled my Wife "Ahh"ing. I am trying to build a feeling of beeing under water.. but not this crystal lovely images you see on Discovery.. more a cynical.. hard.. rough place with a touch of evil. A place where the stronges predators of them all survive. I have some work left on the ambience.. but its getting there.. The beat is pritty much in box.. rather banging stuff..
Tech stuff:
This track relies heavy on the Emu on the drum and bass. And i can't say it enough.. that emu is just amazing.. its like it does the music for me.... It sounds so analouge that i have sometimes a hard time understanding its a digital sampler..
I am using for this track
Novation Nova (base sample for the bass, pad)
Emu e6400 Ultra (bass, drums, choir, drumloop)
Creamware synhts (Lightwave, Zarg Orion Custom 3)
Samples from my wife and "the beach"
And if you have read this fare! please leave a comment... i know that my blogg arnt very popular.. but with a comment here and there.. i can pretend that it is
Just a short update
Well.. i have been on a short vacation.. driving down in europe.. it was nice.. i wish i could stay on holiday forever.
Anyway.. i have started a new track.. drum and bass again.. trying to get it abit more raw in the sound.. hard to tell where its going.. since its just 20 min of work
The name so fare is 214.. hehe..
I have also ordred some zipdrives and Chickensys Translator for emu's.. that should ease the pain when trying to move samples (single shot drums) from my computer to my emu.. today i have to record each sound, then map them up.
Another thing is that i have updated my myspace page.. which i created for almost a year ago.. now there are two tracks there and some rubbish text. Hopefully it will be discovered by some rich people who want to give me money for making music the rest of my life... (i think not).
E-mu Wave :)
Here is a patch example of an emulator patch made by sampling down 3 position of Waldorf microwave2 chorus2 wavetable, and crossfading between them.
There are some filtring there aswell.. but its very easy to spot whats filtring and whats "wavetable cycling"
